A collaborative research project

FoBE (Future of Bilingual Education) is an academic project promoted by the University of Cordoba and the British Council for analysing how students experience and perceive bilingual education in Spain. (British Council Spain)

This project not only studies data, but also the real voices of students, including perceptions of their language skills, future mobility, employability and interculturality.

Student perception as the focus of the study

One of the keys to FoBE is that directly collects the opinions of nearly 3,000 secondary school students enrolled in bilingual and non-bilingual programmes. (British Council Spain)

This makes it possible to understand first hand what value young people attach to bilingual education, including preparation for a globalised and multicultural world.

Comprehensive analysis of key areas

The project structures its analysis along four fundamental axes:

  • Internationalisation and mobility
  • Employability
  • Intercultural education
  • Multilingual competence

These blocks make it possible to evaluate not only linguistic results, but also social, cultural and professional impacts. of educational bilingualism.

Empirical basis for education policy

More than a descriptive report, FoBE provides empirical evidence usable for designing better education programmes and guide public policies in bilingual and multilingual education.

The results help to understand what really works from the learner's perspective, and can serve as a reference for schools, administrations and educational organisations.

Future of Bilingual Education

Bilingual Education Programme

The Bilingual Education Programme (BEP), created in 1996 with the British Council, serves 40,000 students in 148 Spanish schools. A recent survey of 2,829 students reveals that they value bilingual education for its linguistic, professional and intercultural advantages.
